DAVID'S BIOGRAPHY

David's pictureI was born in England. I loved drawing and writing from an early age. However, I went into teaching, with the idea of "doing some good" in the world. (I have a degree in Education from the University of London). Plus, what about those vacations!

I loved teaching, but I gravitated more and more towards creating the graphics and dioramas for school displays, creating the sets and scenery for drama, and writing illustrated stories to engage the students during morning assemblies.

I reached a turning point when I wrote and part-illustrated a set of textbooks for elementary science. Called "Looking at Science," it was published by Basil Blackwell of Oxford, England.

I left teaching behind altogether when I left England and moved to America, upon marrying the American lady who had stolen my heart. In America I wrote, illustrated and self-published a set of children's books, called "The Light of the World." To accomplish this, I learned to use the main graphics and graphic design computer programs. I also learned to deal with commercial printers.

At the same time, I freelanced to earn more income. Apart from regular illustration, I did technical illustration and technical writing. I learned to make promotional movies and build web sites.

However, when I found myself getting involved in writing computer code, I decided that my work was getting too "dry" for my liking. I turned down an offer of full employment with my major client, and established "Ideas Realized."

We now live in Oil City, a small and attractive town north of Pittsburgh, which has a thriving community of artists and other creative people. In this congenial place I concentrated on illustrating, writing and design.

In December of 2018 I was invited to become a full-time editor at The Derrick newspaper, based in Oil City. I work there while working with my wife to develop our own publishing company, Castle of Grace.

My client list for illustrations includes:

Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine
Basil Blackwell, Ltd.
Brightstar Publishing
Cleaveland/Price, Inc.
Culture Wars magazine
Loreto Publications
Pauline Books & Media
Saint George Publishing
The Invention Submissions Corporation

ROSEMARY'S BIOGRAPHY

ABOUT ROSEMARY
Rosemary Hugo Fielding was born in Pittsburgh and grew up in North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.  She received a B.A. in English from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, and a M.A.T. from the University of Pittsburgh.
Rosemary is a writer. She was a reporter on city daily newspapers in Westmoreland, Allegheny and Venango counties and a freelance writer for other publications, including Culture Wars, Our Sunday Visitor, The Pittsburgh Catholic, and New Covenant Magazine.  She also worked as a proofreader and copyeditor. She is working on re-publishing the books of her uncle, Fr. John J. Hugo, which involves both copyediting the new printings, repaginating the indexes, and writing forewords for the books.  (Those books can be viewed and purchased at www.castleofgrace.com). She is also currently writing on some longer projects.
As well as a professional writer, Rosemary was also a teacher. For years she taught English literature and writing to middle and high school students; she has also taught writing at the college level, both as an instructor and a tutor.
Rosemary also worked for many years as a fulltime wife, mother and homemaker, and she continues to put in many hours at those happy tasks when she is not writing, reading, researching and making her contribution to outside groups.
